Feel GOOD Friday!

After having a little bit of a tough week with some moderately miserable individuals, I decided Friday would be the perfect day to remind myself, and YOU that life is too short to not feel GOOD!  That being said, I wanted to take today to recognize a group of women that my sister-in-law, Laura, works with on a daily basis.  Laura is the Fraternity/Sorority Life Advisor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.  She works hand-in-hand with these organizations to facilitate a positive college experience for all of the Greek community.  I was in Alpha Phi at Penn State (http://alphaphipennstate.wix.com/psugammarho) and I can honestly say that I met some of my best friends through my sorority, and we are all still very close.  Greek life often gets a bad reputation due to the media, but the truth is, it is a wonderful way for individuals to get involved in many philanthropic activities and creates a smaller group for college students attempting to navigate their first burst of independence.  I loved being in a sorority at Penn State and I especially loved participating in the largest student run philanthropy- THON (http://www.thon.org)!

Anyways, back to the chicas at SHU…

The Panhellenic Council (governing board of sororities) at SHU received a grant from Kappa Delta to help women find confidence and in turn planned a week full of fun events and called it “Confidence with Heart.”  The sororities participated in these events and shared some of their personal confidence issues.  From what Laura sent to me, the events seemed empowering and simply just FUN!  I wish that more universities would attempt to bring women and all individuals together instead of allowing them to constantly compete.

We all have things that bother us about ourselves, but the truth is most people don’t even notice these “imperfections.”  Instead of knocking each other down, it would be so nice to lift each other up!  Compliment someone at least one time, every single day.  You will be shocked to see another person’s reaction when you offer a compliment.  It’s funny how much time and energy our society invests in pointing out the negatives.  People are idolized that don’t eat, don’t socialize, or partake in behavior that really isn’t inspiring.

I would challenge you to take the time to filter out the negatives in your life, especially when they are self inflicted.  Choose happiness in every day, and if someone is choosing to be negative- don’t let their negativity bring you down!  It’s your life, you will only have one, so choose to live it in JOY!

In closing, here is a link to a YouTube video that was created by the women of Sacred Heart University…

Tonight I will be choosing happiness with my sweet husband while drinking some of our Melovino Applewood Meade (http://www.melovino.com).

Thanks for reading and have a fun WEEKEND 🙂
