This weekend was exhausting but wonderful. We had so much fun at both of our volunteering activities. The dogs were so adorable on Saturday, and so funny. I loved holding and walking the different types of dogs and talking with some of the potential adopters, especially the super excited kiddos. There were so many great dogs available for adoption. I would have been happy to take any of them home!! Collecting all the gifts for the Advent Giving Tree was also amazing. It was so moving to see the generosity of people in our town. I was almost brought to tears by one family who was so incredibly generous to two huge families. They were instructed to send the gifts back bundled in a box or bag so we knew which families went together. The one family I am referring to packed all their gifts so carefully into four plastic Rubbermaid bins. You could tell they took so much time to make sure it all looked perfect. We also had someone buy an adorable pink bike with streamers from the handlebars, which one of the volunteers put together yesterday. I can just picture the excitement of the little girl who asked for this bike, and it makes me so happy to think of her riding it all around! It was really such a great experience and just overall made me feel so good about society, especially with all the awful things that are going on in the world today. I wish the media would focus more on the positive things that people are doing to make our world a better place.
I was also fortunate enough to attend the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center with some of my friends on Saturday night. It was really outstanding. It was just so amazing to watch the talent and skill behind each and everyone of these dancers. I am so happy that my friend Chris suggested that we buy tickets. It was a lot of fun and something different to ring in the holiday season. I highly recommend it, although I do have to say, I don’t think it is really appropriate for young children, as one of the best parts of the Nutcracker is the music. We had a family with two small children in front of us and the little girl talked through the entire show flailing her arms like crazy. The thing that was most annoying was the mom would ask her questions, as well, so the mom was just as much to blame. But, anyways, it was still a great performance and I would definitely recommend it to anyone that enjoys ballet!
Although the city can be crazy during the holidays, there is just something so magical about walking through the city during Christmas time. All of the lights and decorations are so pretty and tastefully done. I actually love that towards the end of my work day it starts to get dark, so I can enjoy seeing all the decorations as they light up the night!
I hope you all had wonderful weekends and were able to relax and enjoy a little here and there.
Thanks for reading and have a fun day 🙂
