Seasons of Love with Thor & Bentley…

So, I woke up this morning bright and early!  I love mornings where waking up isn’t difficult.  It is probably due to the fact that I went to bed at 10 pm.  I tend to be more of a night owl by nature.  I actually write a lot of my blogs at night and then publish them the next morning.  Last night, however, I was SO tired and just went to bed instead of writing/brainstorming/overthinking everything in life.  I was also SO happy when I woke up and took Thor man outside because it was SNOWING!  I just love snow.  A lot of people complain about snow and how annoying it is, but I honestly love it.  It’s so pretty when it first falls and there is not a single indentation, yellow snow, or dirt on it.  It is actually one of my favorite things about living where I live.  After graduating college, I had this idea that I could live in the south.  Boy, was I wrong!!!  I missed the change in seasons, especially as Fall rolled around.  I moved to Florida in July and was back in NJ by December.  Along with being crazy homesick, I think I was also suffering from seasonal depression.  There is something about a crisp fall breeze and the leaves changing that just make me a happy person.  I feel the same way about the snow.  It is just in my mind what is supposed to happen in the wintertime and I can’t imagine a winter without snow.

The other thing I love about where I live is that in the early morning and late at night, it is perfectly quiet.  When we first moved out of the city, the quietness freaked me out a little.  I missed the sound of ambulances and car horns, (who would have thought that I would be saying this) and I honestly felt nervous at the thought of having our own house and not having neighbors upstairs and below us.  Now, I love the quietness in the morning and at night.  It’s so peaceful, and just gives me time to wake up and set some goals for myself for the day, instead of feeling like I am in the hustle and bustle of the city, immediately upon waking up.  I have said it before and I will say it again, when we moved to Summit, I have never really looked back.  I don’t regret moving, I don’t really miss my apartment, the only things I really miss are my friends and the dog park.  It is so funny because the dog park was like Thor’s second home in Hoboken.  He loved going to the dog park every single day after I got home from work.  We used to joke that he was the mayor of the dog park because we went there so much.  We also met some really nice people at the dog park.  I think dog people just understand other dog people, although every now and then there would be a very weird and unusual owner.  I would often leave and go home because the unusual owners made me uncomfortable and just changed the overall vibe of the dog park.  Who knew a dog park could be so political?! Haha!

Anyways, we are happy that some of our friends from the dog park Erin, Marc and Maxwell will be coming over for dinner tonight.  They are bringing over Bentley, Thor’s twin (although they are not the same breed).  Bentley is staying with us this weekend, so stay tuned to my instagram for lots of pictures of these hilarious boys!  If you don’t already follow my instagram it is nice and easy to remember @HOLLYontheBLOG (creative, I know).  We will be eating short ribs for dinner, which I posted the recipe for on the blog a few weeks ago.  Here is the link if you want to make short ribs, as well:  https://hollyontheblog.com/2015/11/10/short-ribs-are-delicious/.  There is something about having dinner cooking in the crockpot by 7 am that makes me happy.  I love mornings that feel and start productive.  I actually read this article on Business Insider, not too long ago called “How the World’s Most Successful People Start Their Day”….here is the link if you would like to read yourself: http://www.businessinsider.com/how-the-worlds-most-successful-people-start-their-day-2015-10?r=UK&IR=T.  I loved this article because I like to get up and start my day, although sometimes “getting up” means being awake in bed and reading articles like the one listed above.  I think you just have to find a morning routine that works for you and makes you feel like you are starting every day ready to be the best that you can be, even when you are tired or don’t feel well.

Well, that’s all I’ve got for today…

Thanks for reading and have a fun day 🙂

Here are a few of my favorite pictures of Thor & Bentley…
