I think it is funny when people say every girl dreams about their wedding day because the truth is some don’t. I, however, was one of the ones that did. I still remember when my mom dressed me up as a bride for Halloween one year, and I thought it was the best year ever. It’s kind of weird that she made me a bride at like age 8, but let me tell you I rocked that veil.
Anyways, one thing I was always back and forth on was a wedding party. I knew I wanted to have bridesmaids and groomsmen, but I was never certain how many. Then when we got engaged, I did exactly what I felt was right. People thought I was nuts for having 11 bridesmaids, but honestly I wouldn’t change a thing. My bridesmaids were each very unique in personality and helped me in so many ways through planning. I still laugh thinking of the week of my wedding when each day my sister would send me a Bitmoji with a different saying to cheer me up when the forecast was strictly rain and hurricane winds. I also loved when Rachel was scouring DSW in the city for a cool pair of rain boots for my mom and I to rock on the wedding day. She did this all while taking us through DSW on FaceTime, which we were in CT and she was in NYC. They say it takes a village to raise a child, I think they should add “or plan a wedding” to that statement. Our wedding was wonderful and so much fun, but it would have never been what it was without our village.
There were so many things that my bridesmaids did for me along the way, as I planned, stressed, cried, and laughed. I am so grateful that I had 11 of them by my side. If you are in the process of picking your bridal party, I think the best thing you can do is think about who you cannot imagine getting ready without. I stole this from my friend Justine, who recently got engaged. Getting ready for a wedding is kind of chaotic–so who will be your calm before the storm!? Also, who is going to pump you up, get you excited and make you laugh?! Lastly, I think you need to think about who helped you get to this day, supporting your relationship, and loving you through all the ups and downs?! Once you have all those questions answered, you will have your bridal party. The number doesn’t matter much, and honestly some people may fit into multiple categories!
Just have fun, and don’t make another task more stressful than it has to be. This should be your #SQUAD! #SQUADGOALS
Thank you for reading and have a fun day 🙂
